Functions of the Ford/International DT466e
Features of the Ford/International DT466e
The Ford DT engine is a wet-sleeve design. Diesel Engines integrate a wet sleeve design, often referred to as a liner. This can be explained as a removable cylinder bore. The liner is designed with a flange at the top that fits into the deck of the cylinder block. The cylinder sleeve is in contact with the engine coolant, where is where the name “wet”-sleeve comes into play. The wet-sleeve design is said to enhance durability. This is because of the consistent wall thickness of the sleeve which allows constant heat transfer. The replaceable cylinder sleeve also protects the block from foreign objects entering the cylinder. The wet-sleeve design allows for the engines to be easily rebuilt and to factory specs.
