Young and Sons is based in Indianapolis and has been in business for over 65 years. Ford partnered with International Truck and Engine Corporation or ITEC, which is now called Navistar in 1982. They would redefine the industry and create Diesel Engines with intense horsepower. Their already hot selling Ford truck engines were rebuilt for a whole new level of durability, power, torque and capabilities.
The truck world welcomed the 6.9L Indirect Injection (IDI) engine. This engine featured a modest 170 horsepower and 315 lb-ft of torque. In 1988-1993, the 7.3L IDI diesel engine was introduced.
Not long after, came the next generation Ford Super Duty truck with the amazing 7.3L IDI diesel engine, produced from 1988-1993. However, in 1994 the 7.3L was reborn and this changed the diesel truck industry as a whole. The all new turbocharger, along with direct injection, air-to-air intercooler, intense power, created the Power Stroke name. This engine was a huge success in the trucking industry and they produced it until 2003. This engine was ranked as one of the top ten Diesel Engines produced.
The 6.0L was introduced in 2003. This engine had intense power and lower emissions then the previous engines. The 6.0L had an increase in horsepower at 325 hp and the torque was at 570 lb-ft. The advanced turbocharger technology, exhaust gas recirculation system and advanced and second-generation fuel injection system made this engine a groundbreaking success.
In 2007 – 2010, the 6.4L diesel was launched and in production. This engine was the quietest Power Stroke produced at this time. With horsepower at 350 HP and a torque output of 650 lb-ft, this engine advanced others.
In 2011, the built from scratch 6.7L was designed, which is up to this date the most advanced Ford Diesel Engine built. This engine is lighter and features a quicker start engine on cooler days. It also has a longer lasting life with its piston-cooling jets.
